Lisboa has some great miradouros (outlook spots) scattered in various places. These are lookout places with spectacular views over the river and city.
The Rua Augusta Arch (Arco da Rua Augusta) faces the Terreiro do Paço – Praça do Comércio. There is a lift and staircase that takes you to the top and from here you have a 360º spectacular view of Lisboa. Building of the current Arch began in 1873 and was completed in 1875. The sculptures on the top are by Célestin Anatole Calmels depicting glory. The sculptures on the level below by Vitor Bastos refer to Viriato, Vasco da Gama and the Marquês de Pombal.
Other miradouros are at Santa Luzia (Portas do Sol) and Nossa Senhora do Monte. There is also the Parque Eduardo VII which has good views and in the summer holds the book fair.
