ROYAL ESTATE OF CAXIAS (Quinta Real de Caxias): Estrada da Gibalta, Caxias. Open: Mon-Sat: 10am-1pm and 2pm-5.30pm. Lovely garden built French style in the 18th and 19th century. Intricate fountains recently restored.
MUSEUM IN MAFRA & NEIGHBOURING AREAS:
MAFRA CONVENT: Started in 1717 and completed about 18 years later this building totally dominates the town of Mafra. King João V made a vow that if his wife gave him a son he would build a convent and so this was his promise.
CABO DA ROCA: Lighthouse at the most westerly point of Europe. Certificates are issued to state that you have reached this point.
AZENHAS DO MAR: A picturesque village overlooking the sea with a natural rock pool.
