Ach Brito soaps in beautifully wrapped paper. The first soap producing factory in Portugal Claus Porto was founded in 1887 by two Germans Ferdinand Claus and Georges Schweder. However, with the First World War they were forced to abandon the country and the factory closed in 1914. It was subsequently taken over by Achilles de Brito who, in 1918, together with his brother Affonso founded ACH Brito & Co. Lda.
Since it was founded the company has won several gold awards in Europe and the US. Over the years the company went through many transformations.
In 1994 the great grandchildren took over running the company. In 1995 Claus Porto launched its luxury range of products. In 2007 the company inaugurated new premises in Vila do Conde, with an area of 10,000 square metres. At the end of 2008 the company took over its rival Confiança which had been going for 100 years.
In one of her talk shows Oprah gave an endorsement of the soaps. Their products have had much publicity in magazines such as Allure, Vogue, Inside, Lucky.
